Pinocchio Is Alive and Well

Nancy Pelosi appears to be lying; it is a classic example of what is wrong in Washington. Despite clear signals from the White House that Obama wishes to move on and deal with the full plate of spaghetti he has introduced to Congress and is broadening The Speaker of the House doesn’t care. She flipped him off basically and called the CIA and Congress liars saying that she did not know of water boarding until 2003. The CIA says they briefed her. She has had numerous stories and it’s hard to keep them straight. The heart of the conflict is that both the CIA and members of congress agree that in 2002 both parties were still rocking from 911 and there was consensus in Washington that the CIA and the military had their blessing to prosecute the enemy.

Nancy’s true narcissistic personality is on full display as she attempts to deflect her true self and project the image of the leader she pretends to be. The Marionette still aspires to be a real person but it appears she still has several transformations left ahead of her.

  1. Wasn’t it the CIA that told us there were WMDs in Iraq? CIA has ZERO credibility!

  2. Wasn’t it the CIA that toppled the Iranian Government and installed the Shah? Wasn’t it the CIA that fingered Mandela to the South African authorities? I can go on and on. I’m with Anarchist on the CIA’s cred.

Even Bob Graham called out the CIA.

  3. Yeah I read Grahams comments, he had to cousult his day book.

So the general supprot of Pelosi seems to be because the CIA is not trustworthy it doesn’t matter if she is a liar is that what I am hearing?

  4. The focus on Pelosi is classic misdirection. What’s more important? It is who justified and authorized torture. That wasn’t Pelosi. How many times did people including Bush say “The U.S. doesn’t torture” while knowing very well that we were. Let’s even say they believed themselves because the lawyers had redefined the word for them. But what about the extraordinary renditions? Sending people to Syria Egypt and elsewhere to have electric shocks applied to their genitals, which is torture by anyone’s twisted definition. And Bush and Cheney knew and lied about it. Which is worse? Give me Pelosi any day over Bush or Cheney.

  5. Fakename really makes my point! Why does it matter when Peolosi was briefed? The crimes had already taken place.

Graham may have had to consult his day book but at least he kept notes. That required the CIA to come clean.

  6. “Give me Pelosi any day over Bush or Cheney”

“Fakename really makes my point! Why does it matter when Peolosi was briefed? The crimes had already taken place.”

So as to be clear, if I understand you all correctly your argument is that because of what Bush /Cheney and the CIA did it is ok if the Speaker of the House now lies to the American people. Is that right? Can you answer that question without “misdirection?”

  7. Wrong, pt. No one here said it was okay for the Speaker of the House to lie to the American people. No one even suggested that. More misdirection on your part. You just hate Nancy Pelosi and are letting your passions run away with you.
There are two issues here: Pelosi says she didn’t know waterboarding was being used in 2002. The CIA says she did. So what I believe is being suggested here is, between believing Pelosi or the CIA…there is some evidence the CIA doesn’t have a habit of being truthful, to put it mildly.
The second issue is that even she acknowleges she knew in 2003…but it wasn’t the CIA who told her. Nevertheless she did not speak up, even privately as she would have had to. Even though others did. So that is a more serious issue, and leaves her without much of a moral leg to stand on.
But that all pales beside the fact that Bush (not so much him, but he was the President after all and the buck does stop there), Cheney, and the CIA, authorized, justified and carried out torture. Nancy Pelosi did not.

  8. Where is your absolute proof that Peolsi lied to the American people? That’s the new criteria right? I don’t want to keep giving you video clips but you have to see the pattern that is emerging. George Tenet was used as a tool by the Vice President’s Office. I look forward to the day when you say FN, Anarchist, and EE were right on this issuse.

  9. I’m with ee. You seem to have forgotten the things you learned from The Dark Side. More importantly, to justify Cheney’s position you have to start from the position, as President Obama said, of “Anything goes.” If you start from that position, then there is no action morally or ethically off-limits. If that’s the position you take, you and I will never meet eye to eye in any way. And please understand, I am not Ghandi. I would not choose to die before protecting myself. I’ve previously stated that killing terrorists is just fine with me. There is a difference between killing terrorists and torturing them, as if that wasn’t obvious.
Meanwhile, Jonah Goldberg’s column recently referred to Nancy Pelosi and her “energumens”. You have to go a long way before finding a word I’ve never heard before and this was it. It means ” a person possessed by an evil spirit”. Now I know what’s wrong with Dick Cheney.

  10. EE Colonel Wilkerson is a credible source and throws doubt on the information used to justify WMD speech by Powell. There are conflicting accounts of course. He has no knowledge of what Pelosi knew or didn’t know (he says so).

“Where is your absolute proof that Peolsi lied to the American people?”

I said APPEARS to be lying. There is no absolute proof. No electronic records are allowed in those security meetings.
“On Sept. 4, 2002 — the House’s first full day back in session after a six-week recess — Pelosi and Goss were summoned to the ultra-secure intelligence committee room on the fourth floor of the Capitol.
Porter J. Goss (R-Fla.), the former representative who chaired the intelligence panel in 2002, has suggested that he and Pelosi left their briefing understanding “what the CIA was doing” and offering their support, while Pelosi said waterboarding and other aggressive techniques were mentioned only as legal tactics for future interrogations.”

Graham was briefed 3 weeks later.

So last week Pelosi calls a press conference and blames her support of the CIA in 2002 on their misleading/lying to congress, which is a crime. I am at a loss as to why it took her so many years to report this crime. And then she says the subject is closed and trots off petulantly to China; leaving her party in an uproar. The Republicans didn’t make this up she did it all on her own. It’s rather comical really. Except that she is Speaker of the House.

My review of the Dark Side adequately expresses my opinion of it. It is not the holy grail of “journalism.”
As for the rest of your statement it seems to be some kind of veiled threat. I do not take well to threats and ultimatums.

This blog is about Pelosi, I have another one about Cheney.

  11. I am flabbergasted that you take any part of my comment as a threat or ultimatum. I assure you, none was intended. Though I can’t see what part of the comment caused you to feel that way, perhaps it was the “never seeing eye-to-eye”. From my perspective, that’s just a statement of fact, but I should have clarified it to say “on this issue”. There are other issues where we are in closer agreement.

  12. I guess you owe Pinocchio an apology. Remember that I was kind and did not give you the NBC version with Andrea Mitchell.

  13. Right now the whole thing is like the beginning of the thrid quarter, we got most of the second half left to find out whats up.

  14. That may be true but the momentum has swung to the Dems.
